RSS-How much does the subscription cost?
It’s funny, I’ve only been reading blogs for a year or two and only using an RSS reader for about 6 months. Yet, I assume all my colleagues, friends and family are familiar with how a blog works, how the subscription functions, that a blog is a conversation and comments are encouraged, etc.
What is a blog? John Dorvak has an overview of what a blog is here and Wikipedia has more than you’ll ever want to know here.
Subscriptions-You can subscribe to the blog using an RSS reader or e-mail. This means you don’t have to visit the web-page to find out if I have made a post that day. If you read a lot of blogs like I do, the advantage of using a reader is that you can go to one page and read 100 blogs in about a 1/2 hour.
How to subscribe:
RSS- There are many free “readers” out there including Google and Yahoo. They can be standalone or built into your homepage (iGoogle, MyYahoo). If you already have the reader or homepage, then just click on the Subscribe to my blog via RSS button (bright orange RSS logo)and choose the correct logo (Google, yahoo etc.).
E-mail-Click on the subscribe to Uncle Joe’s Leadership Blog by e-mail in the upper right corner (just below the RSS feed). It will prompt you for your e-mail address and to type in the letters/numbers on the screen to prove you are a person and not a computerized robot. It will then send you an e-mail daily with any blog posts from that day. There is no cost to this either.
What are those funny buttons at the bottom of every post under Share and Enjoy? They are social networking icons. If you like the post, you can save or favorite to sites such as Digg, Technorati, Stumble Upon and others. This is the 21st century version of word of mouth-check out this cool article. Some people are linked into these sites, so that when their friends recommend something, they see it. It also raises the profile of a blog, encouraging the general public to check out a blog.
I hope this was helpful.
