No Ask Fundraising

Guidestar has an interesting article on No Ask Fundraising. They give us six ways that board members can help with fundraising without actually asking for money. The last is to call the donor to say thank you. I was surprised by the following stat:

Some studies have shown that donors who were called by board members within 24 hours of making a gift later made gifts that were 37 percent higher than those from donors who did not receive a call. This means that board members can directly improve your organization’s bottom line without having to solicit!

While these jobs do not involved soliciting, they do require effort and commitment. Board members have to have a firm grasp of what the organization does and how it impacts the community to be effective in this role. This might be a good first step for many boards as the Urban Institute studied the performance of boards of midsize non-profits and finds many of them wanting.
