Why this Blog?

I work for a great non-profit. This blog is about how to make life working at a non-profit easier and to share some lessons learned. Most of what I share, I have learned from someone else - my mentors, Clemson classmates, our staff, colleagues, kids at the Club and, of course, my folks.

When I first transitioned from direct service (”program”) to supervision, everyone assumed that because I was good at youth development that I would be good at management. No training and little direction was provided. Due to stubborn pride, I didn’t ask for help and I had a brutal experience for about 18 months. Since April 2002 I have had a great teacher in my present position and have learned a lot. I hope that the information on this blog can help others avoid my earlier experience.

This blog is purely my opinion and does not represent the official opinion or policies of my employer.
